It is difficult to find hole cutting tools that make neat clean holes in wood, especially laminates, and in plastic. With laminates there is often splintering and tearing of the top layer and with plastic there is often heat buildup which melts the plastic. The Hole Pro adjustable hole cutter using these fine kerf high speed steel blades but a cleaner hole in wood and plastic sheet than anything else I have tried.

There is just two blade tips hitting the wood so there is not the friction found with hole saws. Net result is I was able to cut 12" holes in plywood with both a low power drill press and with a 1/2" DeWalt hand drill. I was even able to cut more than a dozen 7-1/4" holes in a tongue and groove wood ceiling with a lightweight 18 volt cordless drill.

The lack of friction is also great when cutting plastic sheet. It is hard to run at a slow enough RPM with a hole saw to not get heat from the side wall friction that melts the plastic. With the Hole Pro high speed steel blades there is not the constant contact and so there is not the dramatic heat buildup you get with a regular hole saw.

With holes in wood using a bi-metal hole saw there is often burning of the wood and splintering which these Hole Pro high speed steel blades do not do. These Hole Pro HSS blades cut very cleanly and with plaster there is none of the melting that is easy to get with a regular hole saw even at very low speeds.

I get on average more than 100 holes in 3/4 plywood with each pair of blades. In theory they can be resharpened but with the low cost it is hardly worth the time. I figure it costs me less than 10 cents per hole and I always keep a spare set of blades in the hole cutter case.

I have used them to cut holes in 5/8" tongue and groove and after the first hole and finding the best RPM to use I cut 22 holes for 6-7/8" can lights in less than an hour. Perfect holes and I used a 18 volt cordless drill and one battery. The 18v drill is supposed to be only able to make holes up to 1-7/8 according to the manual but it had no trouble making the 6-7/8" holes using the Hole Pro HSS blades.

I needed to make some large 16" diameter plugs for pipe and these blades on a Hole Pro X-425 worked very well. The plastic was easy to cut and no problems with melting as when we tried to use a router instead. Also a lot faster with the X-425 than the router and no cracking of the acrylic sheet.

Like the Hole Pro adjustable hole cutters the replacement blades work great and keep the hole cutter working like when new after many months of use.
